When you came to the homepage were you a little thrown by the image of ice cream? What did you think? Did you think for a second that you were on the wrong page? Did you double check to make sure? Did you read the title and subtitle to find out? Odds are that if you are reading this that you did in fact have some of these questions. If you are reading this, mission accomplished. The average new visitor will spend 5 seconds on your website before clicking off. That is just 5 seconds to get your point across and deliver any information about you that you want them to have. You have a choice to either make sure that they get the message in that short time, or more ideally, keep them longer. At Quirk Visual, we are always looking for new ways to keep your visitors longer while giving them what they want. Not only that, what WE want them to see. We also know that associations are very powerful tools for motivation. You know what we are talking about here. That smell that instantly takes you back to a fond childhood memory or that song that makes you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing at a certain period in time? For most people, ice cream is a very positive association. Without knowing it, feelings of pleasure come into your consciousness just from the visual. We know that this is a fact of psychological conditioning, but Abraham Maslow (A Theory of Human Motivation, 1943), would take it a step further saying that conditioning transcends the psychological into the physiological. This would double the effect offering two distinct motivational pulls. So lets make this easy: Because you like ice cream and because we use ice cream, you will like Quirk Visual. We'll stop there before you regret asking the question, "Why Ice Cream?" We won't go into the psychological uses of color, texture or scale. Not right now anyway. |
